Juniper Adkins
Juniper is one of the newest Americorp/UCC individual placements serving her second term as a Habitat Restoration Technician under Anna Zack. Juniper was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio and received her BA in Environmental Biology & Environmental Studies at Ohio University.
While in undergrad Juniper worked as an entomology technician and, later, an undergraduate researcher, spearheading cost-effective methodologies to research microplastic bioaccumulation within crayfish under the guidance of Dr. Kelly Johnson.
Since graduating in 2023 she has been working for various universities and non-profit organizations across the country, focusing on developing and broadening her skills as an ecologist. She has worked as a botany technician, a hydrologist, a trail worker and sawyer, and has two years of animal handling experience — ranging from crayfish to wild turkeys to whitetail deer.
Her primary research interests are sustainability, environmental justice, and ecological stewardship. In August of 2026 she intends to attend Penn State's Geographic Information Systems and Data Science MS program to study correlations between unsustainable economics, public health disparities, and ecological stressors. In the meantime, however, Juniper is ambitiously developing her skills in GIS, habitat stewardship, public outreach, and volunteer coordination on the grounds of the Ogden Nature Center.
