Grounds and Maintenance Apprentice

Work with our grounds and maintenance team to help keep the Ogden Nature Center beautiful and maintain daily operations. The volunteer apprentice position will work with our grounds and maintenance staff closely and will have the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of grounds and facility maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist and train with our grounds/maintenance staff
  • Perform grounds keeping and building maintenance duties
  • Perform any trail maintenance work including mowing and clipping trees and branches
  • Safely use tools and equipment and return them when you are finished

Length of Appointment

Grounds and maintenance volunteer apprentices must be able to commit to one month of service as a trial period. After one month, there may be an opportunity to continue service into the future.

Time Commitment

Grounds and maintenance volunteer apprentices are required to put in at least one day per week, but shifts and times are flexible and available Tuesday-Saturday.


  • Basic knowledge or desire to learn about painting, plumbing, electrical, or carpentry
  • Must be able to safely and effectively operate tools and equipment
  • Must pass a background check if over the age of 18
  • Must be dependable and respectful


Volunteers will undergo an orientation and receive a volunteer handbook. In addition, mailing committee volunteers will receive job-specific training with their direct supervisor.
