Lampropeltis triangulum sinaloae

Paintbrush originally belonged to former staff member Bryce King, who purchased him from a pet store and then brought him to the nature center to be used for educational  purposes in December 2013. Non-venomous milk snakes are often confused for the  deadly coral snakes; however there is a slight variation in the pattern of colors that differentiates the two types of snakes.

Fascinating Facts:

The common name, milk snake, originated from a belief that these snakes milked cows. This myth probably began when farmers sought some excuse for why a cow was  producing less milk than usual. The snakes, drawn to the mice in the barn, were convenient culprits to blame.
