Bert came with his brother Ernie in 2009 as very young snakes. Sadly Ernie died after about 10 years.  Bert is going strong and visits many schools every year as part of the Outreach program. Bert is close to 20 years old as of 2024.

Fascinating Facts: 

Gopher Snakes are the most common snake to see when out on a hike. Gopher Snakes are sit and wait carnivorous predators who constrict their food to kill it and then swallow the food whole. Snakes do not chew their food.
