Kylie Friedman
Kylie completed her AS in Mathematics at Anne Arundel Community College, and her BS in Cellular and Molecular Biology at Towson University. During her time at Towson, she participated in several research projects involving conservation genomics and microbiology. Kylie continued her education at University of Florida, where she received her MS in Microbiology and Cell Science in 2022 and wrote her final project on the effects of space flight on astronaut microbiomes.
Kylie is a Baltimore native and initially planned to use her degrees to work in microbiome research, but found a vastly different job outlook upon being stationed in Florida. She began to work as an informal science educator, leading a mobile planetarium program and in-house field trips at the Emerald Coast Science Center. During this time, she fell in love with education and decided to change her career plans. When her family moved to Utah in 2022, she was inspired by the Ogden Nature Center’s mission and decided to continue her career as a teacher naturalist. Kylie strives to apply her background to educational programs, leading stargazing nights and creating activities about environmental microbiology.
Kylie is passionate about a variety of forms of artistic expression, and loves coming up with craft ideas for programs. Outside of teaching, Kylie enjoys making earrings, embroidery, and brewing her own kombucha.
